How to Recognize Post-traumatic Stress Disorder At a Glance
Post traumatic stress disorder anxiety, signs and symptoms of ptsd, post traumatic stress disorder diagnosis
For soldiers and those who became victims of war who suffered horrifying
life-endangering experiences, the term for their traumatized condition
is called PTSD or
post-traumatic
stress disorder. The signals of this disorder are those who
have avoidance issues, keep reliving traumatic experiences or have a hyper-arousal,
an oversensitivity to normal experiences.
The majority of individuals who suffer from PTSD are certain minority
groups, girls and women. Post-traumatic stress disorder becomes complex
post-traumatic stress disorder when the actual trauma continues for a
long period of time. The individual who suffers from C-PTSD develops 'out
of touch feelings', loosing the desire for other people and things that
were once of interest to them. The sufferer becomes obsessed with either
seeking revenge against the
cause
of the trauma or event or is deathly afraid and their personality
changes.
When post-traumatic stress disorder remains unattended, not only the sufferer
is adversely affected but all those who have any kind of relationship
with them is affected. The social development of a child who suffers from
PTSD is
damaged along with their growth academically.
Either experiencing directly or witnessing any kind of traumatic happening
may lead to PTSD. The duration of the trauma and the intensity of the
event also make the danger of
developing
PTSD even higher. Violence in the home makes adolescents
prone to this disorder and also causes them to have an inability to learn.
It is often difficult for a health care professional to properly evaluate
whether a person is suffering from a
post-traumatic
stress disorder. The symptoms that are relative to the disorder,
are also common to other types of problems. For instance, when a person
complains of being depressed or suffers from some kind of substance abuse,
eating disorders or other types of disorders related to anxiety, the PTSD
can be a combination of other conditions.
Because the sufferer
of PTSD tends to become dissociative or disconnected, it
is a natural thing for them to become involved in an obsessive or compulsive
type of behavior like drugs, alcohol or overeating or even develop an
irritability that expresses as anger and rage issues.
Education about the condition usually helps to alleviate some to the symptoms
of suffers of the disorder. Sleep problems directly related to the disorder
can be treated and will help to eliminate or lessen the symptoms of the
disorder. There are certain medications that can be helpful, like those
used to treat depression. Anti-psychotics and anti-depressants can be
potentially a help but tranquilizers have not been found to be particularly
useful.
To ease the symptoms of
post-traumatic stress disorder, it is best to lead a positive
and peaceful life by using relaxation techniques, medication and prayer
regiments and seeking out any kind of good support groups available. Talking
out negative feelings with others who understand or suffer a similar condition
can be very therapeutic.
